Hi, I'm Katie Kit! After seven years as a middle school art teacher (let’s go Bulldogs!!) in Covington, Kentucky, I'm leaping into the launch of Artmarkit—a vibrant community hub that will revolutionize how we experience and connect with art in our city.
What is Artmarkit?
Artmarkit is a creative sanctuary, dedicated to nurturing the Cov where everyone can explore, learn, and make art without barriers. Artmarkit’s mission is to ignite creativity through:
- Quality, Gently Used Art Supplies: a pay-what-you-can system for second-hand art supplies to make art accessible to everyone, regardless of financial constraints
- Mentorship/Subscription Program: monthly subscription service connects community members to youth artists that need access to supplies, resources, and creative mentorship
- Classes, Workshops and Events: affordable and accessible art lessons, group classes, workshops, and events open to the entire community
- Rotating menu of Art Kits: curated kits and blank art bases (canvas, paper, etc) available on the in-store menu daily to guide customers in their creative endeavors
- Open Studio: A cozy, inclusive, safe studio space that invites all people to explore at their own rate
Artmarkit is more than just a physical location or store—it's a supportive environment where creativity thrives through education, community engagement, and accessible resources. It aims to empower individuals of all ages to explore and express themselves through art, fostering a deeper appreciation for creativity in everyday life.
Why Artmarkit?
Making art, seeing art, talking about art, learning about art, making art with others, watching others make art, experiencing art, teaching art...art has always been an anchor. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to create in the environment that allows for the freedom to do so. It takes every bit of these elements to unleash, Kit knows that by trade. When you aren’t used to it, creating can be extremely daunting. Sometimes just the thought of having to bring it out unfortunately stops us from starting the process all together. We are innately creative, but it’s so easy to lose that understanding without the resources, encouragement, community, and reminder. Artmarkit will serve as Covington’s art teacher; offering the space, materials, and inspiration needed to unleash artistic potential. Artmarkit is your art class connection, even well after you are out of school.
How You Can Make a Difference
We’ve secured all the startup funding needed (!!!), signed the lease, began internal construction, and set the date for our grand opening on September 22, 2024!
But we need your help to bring Artmarkit to life through these 3 key pre-launch events:
- Artmarkit In-House Educator Event (August 23, 24, 25)
We’ll provide Art Kits tailored to teachers’ needs and offer a creative break before the school year starts. We will also bring a classroom poster customization service to all 256 Covington Independent Public School classroom teachers. This event helps educators integrate art into their curriculum and connects them with our resources. At the event, educators are invited to an art-making experience. This event connects educators in Covington to hear about what they directly need to ensure the arts are being integrated and accessible to all students and gives teachers a chance to breathe before beginning the school year by being creative. The goal is that the event allows for all educators to see how Artmarkit can help them and provide a needed service as they get their classrooms and minds ready for the upcoming school year.
- Community Donation Drop Weekend (September 6, 7, 8)
Join us for a weekend of collaging postcards, painting picnic tables, a Collage-A-Thon, creating community art projects, and donating art supplies to be used in the future opening of the storefront. The entire community is invited to stop by Artmarkit on any of the days to help us get ready for the official opening. At this three day event, art supply donations will be dropped off and sorted.Think of it as a very soft opening that people will get to be a part of bringing Artmarkit to life. The community will learn about store hours, events, workshops, classes, and get a taste of what a third space is all about.
- ArtMarKid Mixer Event (Thursday September 12, Friday September 13)
Creatives (ages 11-18) are invited to a special studio mixer. They’ll create visual art profiles, connect with local artists, learn about Artmarkit’s sponsorship, review the calendar of events and plan for upcoming events they would like to see in their community. This event aims to ensure they have the tools to succeed and explore within their creative pursuits for the school year. There will be a soda rating to determine the viability of drinks and snacks available at Artmarkit before the official opening as well as games, art making, and fun.
Your Impact
By donating, you’ll help us:
- Provide snacks and drinks at all three events (all of which will be purchased from small businesses in Covington!)
- Equip every Covington Independent Public School teacher with Art Kits to integrate art into their lessons, the resources to make art themselves (a painting), and provide the opportunity for classroom poster customization (up to 3 posters)
- Provide opportunities for Covington youth (your donations will help pay students for their work in making posters for CIPS teacher classrooms)
- Sponsor art supplies and quality experiences for students passionate about art. This event is the first of many for our youth to take part and lead creative events in their own community. (All attendees will take home a sketchbook and an Art Kit)
- Fund our pre-launch events to build momentum for Artmarkit

- We would love to send you a postcard for your donation. If you would like, please email me with your mailing address, through the Website
- Artmarkit is located right off of MLK, behind Olla, in the heart of Covington at 1131 Holman street. We are in there working on the space now and it’s extremely exciting!! The community is quite literally involved in every step of creating this third space.
- Please stay tuned, visit our website, subscribe, and follow our socials. We are actively building the website, the look of it will change daily (lol).
- Jot down the dates for the three events, and pass along the information to anyone you know. We want your input and contribution to Artmarkit, no matter what it is that you bring to the table.
