Support Antony's Mission for Khasi Community
Donation protected
Antony faces a crossroads. He works with his community, the Khasi indigenous community in Sylhet, Bangladesh. In 2013, through an invitation from the US State Department, Antony traveled to the United States to represent his indigenous community on an international stage. Now, he is helping his community while promoting US business in Bangladesh by entering into an agreement with an an American buyer to sell their coffee in two years’ time. When a major USAID project dedicated to protecting the forests and community suddenly ended in his area, Antony stood strong, committed to carrying forward the development vision inspired by the generosity of the American people.
The groundwork is already in place: farmers have been trained, nurseries are prepared, soil has been tested, and they have a guaranteed American buyer lined up for their coffee beans. From July onwards, they are going to distribute the coffee seedlings to the farmers. Please join us in making this vital impact possible.
WORK HAS ALREADY BEGUN. Farmers trained, nurseries ready, soil tested, and they have a guaranteed buyer for their coffee beans.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL:
- Provide 10,000 coffee plants to 100 ultra-poor farmers.
- Distribute 24,000 coffee plants to 120 unemployed youth and women.
- Conduct 20 plantation training sessions for 1,000 farmers.
- Provide stipends for the volunteers on the project.
By growing coffee alongside their traditional crops, they can:
- Increase community income.
- Empower Women
- Sequester 4,800 to 7,000 metric tons of CO2.
- Protect 10 million existing native trees that capture 2.5 million tons of CO₂ annually.
Despite being stewards of the forests and their unique culture, the Khasi have long been excluded from government support and donor projects. This coffee initiative is a chance to break that cycle-uplifting their people, empowering women, youth and building a sustainable future for their children and the planet.
