- Hi. My name is Patricia and I’m originally South African but currently living in the US. We left South Africa looking for a better and safer life for us and our children. Unfortunately, we had to leave behind my sister, her family, and my mom, who is currently bedridden and very ill. Things are really bad in South Africa and only getting worse.
- My sister (Anthea) and her family have lost everything due to a home invasion last Friday. Everything of value was taken from their home, and what was left behind was destroyed and left in a complete mess. The police officer told Anthea that she was lucky she was not at home because there had been 2 other incidents over the past week in her neighborhood where people were home at the time of the incident. They were kidnapped and held for ransom. Incidents like this happen on a daily basis in South Africa, and it often turns deadly, so we are obviously very thankful that everyone is okay.
- Now the reason for this GoFundMe - because of my sister’s poor financial situation from paying for my mom’s care facility and all her medical expenses (no insurance), Anthea has not been able to keep up her home insurance and will not be able to recover her loss of over R180,000 ($10,000). My family helps as much as possible each month by contributing to my mom’s care, but now with this terrible loss, we are forced to turn to our community for help.
- It’s a very difficult thing to do for South Africans; we are a very proud nation and like to think we can deal with any obstacle put in our path without outside help. But sometimes it’s necessary to be humble and ask for help. So we ask you, if you have a dollar to spare, please consider helping my dear sister Anthea and her wonderful family.
