On Monday morning, Anjali went in for her regular 26 week check up and casually mentioned to her doctor that she had been feeling some pressure. As the doctor investigated, she discovered Anjali was already 6 centimeters dilated. They rushed her by ambulance to the birthing center to try and stop the labor from progressing. 

When they arrived at the hospital, Anjali's contractions progressed and they prepped for their sweet baby boy to enter the world. At 4:24PM, Luca Wesley Smith was born weighing 2 pounds at 26 weeks 1 day gestation. He is truly a miracle baby and is currently doing well, along with his warrior momma. Luca means "light" and Wesley was Anjali's dad's middle name. He is already a light in such an uncertain time! 

The Smith family has a long journey in front of them. Luca is potentially going to be in the NICU for the next three months until his due date. This is an important time for the family, one that they should be spending together as much as possible. With his arrival coming three months early, both Anjali and Robert weren't prepared to take off work during this time. Our desire is to help ease the financial burden for them so that they can spend as much time as possible with sweet Luca in the hospital. Luca is going to need his mom and dad in these early days to help him grow and get stronger.
