My name is Ilana Cordoba Montoya and my friend Aníbal Ramirez has been part of this community for more than 20 years. He is a hard-working, kind, and deeply decent man who has built his entire adult life here. He pays taxes, works consistently, and has always supported his family with dignity and care.

Over two months ago, Aníbal was apprehended by ICE and has been held in detention at the Farmville Detention Center in Virginia ever since.

He has no criminal record.

He is not a danger to anyone.

He is simply undocumented — and despite having lived in the United States for over two decades, he was denied release from detention.

Aníbal’s detention has placed an enormous burden on his family.

His wife suffers from arthritis and is unable to work, making Aníbal the primary source of financial and emotional support. They have two young children — a 9-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son — who are struggling deeply with their father’s absence.

Detention has separated a loving father from his children and left a family without the support they depend on every day.

We are raising funds to help secure Aníbal’s release from detention. The total cost is still uncertain, but we expect it to be in the thousands — potentially up to $10,000.

All funds raised will go directly toward bond and legal expenses needed to bring him home while his case continues.

This is not about politics.

This is about keeping a family together.
