Hi, my name is Angel. I’ve never been one to ask for help — We’ve always tried to manage on our own — but this situation has left me feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to turn.

Recently, a tree in our yard fell during what we thought was just a regular Florida afternoon thunderstorm. Without any warning, it crushed one of our vehicles. That car didn’t have full coverage at the time because it wasn’t fully driveable yet, and we hadn’t added comprehensive insurance while we were still working on it. Unfortunately, this damage isn’t covered. We were hoping to have the car ready to use after August, when my daughter starts preschool.

The other car, which my husband uses for work, does have comprehensive insurance. It was also partially affected by the fallen tree, but there’s a huge limb blocking it, and we don’t have the equipment or means to remove it yet to fully assess any damage.

We’re still checking to see if FEMA or any other assistance might be available, but because this wasn’t part of a major declared disaster and happened so suddenly, we don’t know if we’ll qualify.

I feel embarrassed asking for help, but this unexpected situation has made things very difficult for our family. Any support — whether a donation or simply sharing our story — would mean the world to us as we try to get back on our feet.
