Who I Am & Why This Matters
Hi, my name is Angelo Nunez. I’m a senior at Sacred Heart Prep and a proud first-generation Mexican American. As I prepare to become a first-generation college student, I can’t ignore the struggles my community faces—especially our farmworkers and immigrant families who work tirelessly to feed us yet live in fear of food insecurity, displacement, and deportation.
I volunteer at the Food Pantry for ALAS (Ayudando Latinos a Soñar), a local nonprofit supporting Latino families. I see firsthand the challenges these hardworking individuals endure. Many of them worked through wildfires, the pandemic, and extreme conditions—yet now, they fear their families could be torn apart.
That’s why I’m launching an initiative to provide 400 emergency "Go" bags filled with essential supplies. These backpacks will help families be prepared in case they need to flee suddenly. Each bag includes:
- Hygiene kits (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.)
- Warm essentials (socks, gloves, beanies)
- Rain ponchos & blankets
- Flashlights & face masks
- Granola bars & snacks
- Notepads & pens
- … and more!
I’m also partnering with another meaningful organization The Lemo Foundation, who will help me gather/store the items and a space to create the bags. Lemo taught me - "Don’t expect to accomplish your dreams if you’re not willing to help others accomplish theirs."
I’ve calculated that each bag costs about $15, and I need your help to reach my goal. Any amount—big or small—will make a difference.
---> $15 = 1 fully stocked bag
---> $30 = 2 bags for families in need
---> $150 = 10 bags to help a whole group
Every donation makes a difference! Whether you can give $5, $15, or even sponsor a full bag, your support will bring security and dignity to these families.
I am incredibly proud to be the son of an immigrant. My father worked so hard sometimes working multiple jobs to give my family a better future, and now, I want to give back to others.
Will you help me reach my goal?
