Ananda Kanan is the largest Ananda Marga Master Unit in the New York Sector. Personally named by Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrti (Baba), it was the first Master Unit established in the Sector and remains the only one with designated Baba’s Quarters.

Ananda Kanan holds a special place in our collective heart. Baba gave Sanskrit names to its buildings and projects, reflecting the spiritual purpose he envisioned for this land.

Since the 1980s, generations of Margiis have gathered here for Summer Conferences, retreats, devotional celebrations, and collective spiritual practice. Many of us carry cherished memories of the joy, inspiration, and unity experienced on these sacred grounds.

Today, Ananda Kanan urgently needs our help. Several buildings require immediate repairs, followed by longer-term restoration and land-care projects.

Phase 1: Urgent Repairs — $22,000

$15,000 — Emergency roof repairs: Stop active leaks and repair vulnerable areas of the roofs on the Family Dorm, Dining Hall, and Baba’s Quarters. Our first priority is to stop water intrusion and prevent further damage to these important buildings.

$7,000 — Lake Cabin floor insulation: The Lake Cabin is now used throughout the year. Insulating its subfloor will protect the building, improve energy efficiency, and make it suitable for use during the winter months.

Phase 2: Long-Term Restoration and Development — $22,500

$500 — Fire prevention: Remove foliage, brush, and hazardous trees within five feet of the buildings to create safer defensible space.

$20,000 — Family Dorm roof replacement: Install new shingles across the entire Family Dorm roof and repair damaged plywood, decking, and rafters as needed. This permanent work will follow the immediate repairs undertaken in Phase 1.

$2,000 — Community tree nursery: Help Brother Tushya establish a nursery at Ananda Kanan to grow trees, shrubs, and fruit trees for donation and sale within the surrounding community.

Our Total Goal: $44,500

Let us come together to preserve Ananda Kanan—not simply as a collection of buildings, but as a vibrant center of devotion, community, service, and spiritual inspiration.

Every contribution, large or small, will help protect this sacred home and ensure that it remains available to inspire current and future generations.
