We are writing to bring attention to and ask for your support to help stop a grave injustice taking place in a Democratic Party Stronghold in Fairfield County, in the Blue State of Connecticut. The Democratic Party of the State of Connecticut has ratified and upheld the Stamford Democratic Party’s expulsion of a democratically elected member from the party.

For over 40 years, Rep. Anabel Figueroa, an immigrant from El Salvador, has resided with her family in the City of Stamford, Connecticut. As many immigrants, she was in search of the American Dream and shared in the values that lead to the realization of that dream, including fully participating in the principles of democracy.

She was gainfully employed and together with her husband worked to educate her children. However, the suffering and the disrespect with which many of her co-workers, neighbors and fellow community members were treated motivated her to seek a position where her voice, and that of her community, could be heard.

Since the Democratic party was known as the party of the working class, she became a member of that party and in 2001 she was elected to the 40 member Stamford legislative body, known as the Board of Representatives. In 2012, she was elected to the Stamford Democratic Town Committee. She also was elected to the State of Connecticut’s General Assembly in 2023. In 2024, Ms. Figueroa was primaried by a fellow Democrat for that state seat.

During the primary election, Ms. Figueroa participated in a Spanish language radio program. When she was asked to describe her district, she emphasized the Latino diversity within her district and the advantages of having a Latino represent that district in the legislature. She misspoke and apologized for her words.

The Democratic party, and her opponent, characterized her words as antisemitic and as hate speech. Thus began a vicious campaign of character assassination compounded with an intentional infliction of emotional distress on Rep. Figueroa. Rep. Figueroa has been terminated from her employment of 23 years, she has been

publicly humiliated and defamed by the Democratic Party of the City of Stamford and the State of Connecticut.

She has been the victim of hate mail delivered to her in many formats.

While she has been offered the pro-bono services of an attorney to assist in her defense and in her efforts to reverse the termination from her employment, the work is extensive and complicated and will require the services of additional legal professionals.

She is making this appeal to help with the payment of the legal fees incurred in defending from this act of injustice.
