I am a black undocumented woman. My parents brought me to the United States when I was six years old. My father is physically and financially abusive so I learned my status was in jeopardy after there was nothing I could do to reverse it. He sabotaged the lawyer I was using to gain a new status and because he is not a citizen, I am unable to use any programs or resources to save myself or my siblings. Because of the lapse, I am now undocumented and living in a sanctuary city. I fell into depression and creating art was the only thing that kept me sane allowed me to eat. I am growing a portfolio for grants and fellowships, but in the mean time, I am finding it hard to eat and take care of myself. My expenses have grown as it is difficult keeping up with bills consistently every month. Every single donation goes towards a stable and safe place to live, my phone bill, food, hygiene products and essentials. Thank you so much for reading my story.
