Who We Are Helping
We are a group of friends, neighbours and community members working together to help an Afghan family find safety and rebuild their lives in Canada through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program.
The Ahmadi Family (alias) includes two parents and their six children (five daughters and one son) as well as the children's aunt and uncle. The family had to leave Afghanistan after facing increasing threats — both because of their prior work supporting education and women’s rights, and because the eldest child (age 13) was at risk of forced marriage by the Taliban.
They are now hiding in Pakistan, waiting for a chance to start over in safety. The children’s grandparents and two aunts have already successfully settled in Canada, and together with them, our group is committed to helping the family come here to reunite and rebuild their lives.
Why We’re Raising Funds
Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program makes it possible for community groups like ours to bring families in danger to safety. As a group, we are responsible for raising the funds needed to support the family during their first year of resettlement.
These funds cover essentials like housing, food, clothing, and transportation while the family gets settled, restarts the children’s education, and begins building their future in Canada.
Why Your Help Matters
This family has shown incredible courage in the face of hardship. The children dream of going back to school, playing safely outside, and one day contributing to their new community in Canada.
Your support will help make that possible — reuniting them with loved ones, ensuring they are safe, and giving them the foundation they need to start again with dignity and hope.
How You Can Help
Donate here on GoFundMe to help cover the family’s resettlement costs. Our current goal is to raise $60,000 by the end of October 31 2025.
Share this campaign with trusted friends and networks.
Together, we can help this family escape danger and begin a new chapter — one filled with safety, learning, and belonging.
