Support Amit Alon's Fight for Freedom and Stability

According to Jewish law, a man is supposed to “give a gett” in order to divorce wife. Many men refuse to do , leaving their wives as an “Aguna” and she is chained to him unwillingly until he sets her free.

Many of you may remember that at age 19, I was an “Aguna” and was unwillingly chained to someone who refused to give a gett.

Unfortunately there are many women currently in that situation, one of them is my dear friend Amit. Please help me, help her and support this campaign to set her free.

This GoFundMe campaign has been established for Amit Alon, a devoted mother of six who has been enduring tremendous challenges during her nearly two-year legal battle with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Perry Sasson. Since their separation in March 2023, Amit has sought both civil and religious divorce, yet she has faced significant retaliation from Perry, including Perry cutting off all financial support and his refusal to pay child support. This ongoing situation has resulted in severe emotional and financial distress for Amit and her children.

Despite a recent victory in securing an attorneys' fees hearing, Perry's appeal has further delayed the divorce process and jeopardizes Amit's legal representation. In addition to the civil aspects of her case, Amit has been fighting for her religious freedom, as Perry has refused to appear before any recognized Beit Din regarding the issuance of her Gett. In April 2024, the Beit Din of America issued a Seruv against Perry, and numerous local Rabbis have urged the community to disassociate from him until he complies. Meanwhile, Amit has found herself drowning in credit card debt and loans from friends and family to support her household and cover her legal fees, which have surpassed $100,000.

In stark contrast, Perry, a businessman, has reportedly only been able to pay $10,000 in legal fees since the divorce proceedings began. I urge our community to rally together to support Amit and her children during this difficult time. The funds raised through the GoFundMe campaign are crucial for ensuring Amit’s legal counsel needed to respond to Perry's frivolous appeal and to provide some relief for her family in the absence of child support. The estimated cost of responding to the appeal alone is $15,000, making your support vital in helping Amit regain stability and closure for her family.
