Hi! My name is Amanda, and I am a member of Cure SMA. SMA is short for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a neuromuscular genetic disease that causes the neurons in the spinal cord to die off at different rates by the age of two. I have had this disease since I was born. I am now in my 40s, and this disease has left me with little voluntary movement below my neck. It has progressed as I have aged. I raise money for Cure SMA because of their patient services and research for treatments and cures. They are a great organization and one of the only organizations dedicated to SMA.
