Alma's Funeral Fundraiser

I never imagined I’d be writing these words. My daughter Alma, my grouchy, loving, and endlessly strong girl, passed away the day after Thanksgiving after a long, hard fight with cancer. Alma was many things, but most of all, she was a mother who loved her three children with all her heart and a daughter who always showed me love in her own special way.

Alma was one of a kind. She could be a bit of a grouch, but when she laughed, her laughter could fill a whole room—or even the whole neighborhood. Her children loved to play games and tell jokes, just to hear her laugh and see her smile. Those were her happiest moments, surrounded by the joy her kids brought her.

Life wasn’t easy for Alma. She faced her fair share of struggles, but one thing she always did beautifully was love. She loved me as her mother, and she adored her children. Even when her illness made life so difficult, her love for her family never wavered. She worried about us constantly—about how we’d manage, about her kids growing up without her, about me taking care of them after she was gone.

Now that she’s gone, my heart aches in ways I can’t describe. I’m doing my best to take care of her children, as I know she would want me to, but I need help. Before I can focus on her kids, I need to give Alma the burial she deserves. She gave so much to all of us, and I want her to rest in peace knowing she’s surrounded by love.

Nunca imaginé que estaría escribiendo estas palabras. Mi hija Alma, mi niña gruñona, amorosa e infinitamente fuerte, falleció el día después del Día de Acción de Gracias después de una larga y dura lucha contra el cáncer. Alma era muchas cosas, pero sobre todo, era una madre que amaba a sus tres hijos con todo su corazón y una hija que siempre me demostraba amor a su manera especial.

Alma era única. Podía ser un poco gruñona, pero cuando se reía, su risa podía llenar una habitación entera, o incluso todo el vecindario. A sus hijos les encantaba jugar y contar chistes, solo para oírla reír y verla sonreír. Esos eran sus momentos más felices, rodeada de la alegría que sus hijos le traían.

La vida no fue fácil para Alma. Enfrentó su parte de luchas, pero una cosa que siempre hizo maravillosamente fue amar. Me amaba como su madre y adoraba a sus hijos. Incluso cuando su enfermedad le hizo la vida tan difícil, su amor por su familia nunca vaciló. Ella se preocupaba constantemente por nosotros, por cómo nos las arreglaríamos, por sus hijos creciendo sin ella, por cómo yo iba a poder cuidado de ellos después de que ella se fuera.

Ahora que ella se fue, mi corazón duele de maneras que no puedo describir. Estoy haciendo lo mejor que puedo para cuidar de sus hijos, como sé que ella querría que lo hiciera, pero necesito ayuda. Antes de poder concentrarme en sus hijos, necesito darle a Alma el entierro que se merece. Ella nos dio tanto a todos nosotros, y quiero que descanse en paz sabiendo que está rodeada de amor.
