Hello
I am Allen Guy, a union electrician out of Orlando, Florida 606. I have been a good standing member since July 2007. Our family currently lives in Muskegon, Michigan. I was hurt on the job on May 14th, 2024, at the LG battery plant in Holland, MI. I was working for Electrical Insights out of IBEW 275 jurisdiction. The employer has denied me workers' comp. We have been fighting it, and it is a long process. They finally meet in a courtroom and talk to a judge on November 4th. My back has just not been the same since. I have trouble even holding my daughter most days. There are more restrictions than just that, but that is the one that hurts me the most. I do go to physical therapy every week, I have a lot of doctor's appointments, and occupational assessments to determine what my capabilities and limitations are. Our family has tried all avenues that we can think of and are open to any suggestions. Brothers did help us out a few months ago and made us feel safe. Then our IBEW insurance cut our disability checks and canceled checks that were already cashed. That pulled money right out of our checking account when we went to pay the mortgage. The insurance company states that we owe 2900 dollars, and we will not receive a payment of 300 a week till that is paid back. We filed an appeal two months ago and haven't heard anything back. I applied for social security benefits and they stated it is 4-6 months to determine an answer. We applied for cash assistance from the Michigan government. They denied us, said our house is worth too much money. We filed an appeal, on the basis that our house is in need of repairs. We received a phone call today that our house insurance is going to drop us on 11/12/2024 because the house needs a new roof, and that there are trees down from the last storm still. Which I would clean up if I physically could, it's not like we can afford to pay someone when we couldn't even pay our mortgage this month. We had to sell my F250 that was for pulling our camper to job sites, just so we could survive last month. I had to open up credit cards to be able to keep the power on in the house and feed us. They finally gave us food stamps on the 5th of October. We aren't looking for a handout, we are looking for a hand up. This has affected us in a lot of negative ways. I do feel like our family respects each other more and is more understanding of each other's emotions. With all hardships, there is a blessing. We hope the brotherhood can help us where the system has failed. If we do recieve help, the money will be first used to keep a roof over our heads. If there is left overs, would be used for the debt we have accumulated, and help others that are in need.

Sincerely,

The Guy Family
