My name is Alexander Otero and my wife, Claudia Otero, and I had the opportunity to go on a missionary trip to Costa Rica to serve Comunidad Genesis and the many community outreach programs that they have in San Jose, Costa Rica. We traveled with a group out of our local church, Palm Valley Church, located in Mission, Texas Comunidad Genesis serves underprivileged sectors of the community through their Casa Club that serves the down syndrome community. A boys and girls shelter for drug addicts, runaway and homeless teens and a nursing home. Comunidad Genesis also runs a school, doctor's office, dental office and church which provide much needed ministry and social services. We went in the summer of 2023 and were able to build a much needed drainage canal at the school, helped move the girls shelter from an old location to a new one, completed a landscaping project and saw the start of a new building project for their nursing home. We ministered to the nursing home, and boys and girls home residents. We were also able to help feed needy children in a children's home and food donation center. My wife and I would like the opportunity to go and minister again at Comunidad Genesis this summer and we are asking for support to make this a reality. The trip is planned for July 9-14, 2026 with Palm Valley Church. This year we plan on helping develop the recreational area for the preschool and early grades of Genesis Christian School. Currently, there's only one small covered play space for the children. Our group will help build two new covered play areas next to the existing playground. We'll also have the opportunity to serve and connect with the wonderful communities of Casa Club and the women's rehab ministry. We will also be hosting a dinner for couples of Genesis Couples Ministry to share testimonies and enjoy a time of fellowship and encouragement.
