Help Ahmed Reunite with His Family
My longtime friendship with Ahmed began when we were both in high school, attending the same Sports Camp for youths with vision impairments. Since then, our friendship has deepened as we have worked together as camp counselors with students with vision impairments and competed on the same goalball team. He truly has a heart of gold and is a cherished family friend and honorary uncle to my daughters.

Ahmed's journey is one of resilience and unwavering love. Moving to the United States as a young refugee in Kenya, he built a life in Grand Rapids, becoming a respected US citizen, a pillar of his community, and a man deeply devoted to his family. Five years ago, Ahmed went to visit his relative in Kenya and from the visit, he found his soulmate, Muslima. They married in 2021, and Ahmed returned to the US to begin the process of bringing his wife (and soon his newborn daughter Hawa) to America.

However, bureaucracy and unexplained denials have kept them apart. Separated by thousands of miles, Ahmed’s heart has ached as he has missed precious milestones. Ahmed is working tirelessly in Grand Rapids, paying for two households, providing for his family in Kenya, and desperately longing for the day they can be together. He's endured the pain of long-distance parenting, the sleepless nights, the missed hugs, the inability to comfort his child in person, and has sacrificed to travel back to Kenya to visit when he can.
Now, their second child is on the way. The joy of expecting a new life is intertwined by the ongoing reality of being apart. Ahmed’s heart is aching to support his wife during pregnancy, but he cannot do this because of the thousands of miles that are separating them.
In February 2025 his wife had an interview at the US embassy in Kenya, but with only a few questions asked, his wife's visa was denied without reason, leaving Ahmed and his family heartbroken.
To appeal the decision, Ahmed needs an immigration lawyer, and the cost is $3,000. This isn't just a legal case; it's a story of a father's ache to hold his children, to build a life together with his family, to finally end the agonizing separation.
Please help us show Ahmed he is not alone and bring Ahmed's family to his side in the US by donating today. Every contribution, no matter how small, is a step towards reuniting a family torn apart by distance.
