Last week, my brother was violently attacked in Boston, sustaining a traumatic brain injury. He needs your support to create space for him to rest and heal, as he cannot work right now. I am reaching out to his friends and network to ask for this support to ensure he follows the instructions he was given to make a full recovery. More below..
I came upon my brother's body laying still on the pavement of High Street in Downtown Boston, as people gathered around him in a semi-circle prompting him to come to.
We had arrived to the Chemist, a bar downtown, minutes prior, just before 1am, to hand out some homemade empanadas to some his friends. After walking in and greeting the DJ he left to go get a couple of boxes of empanadas to give to his friends who were leaving. He walked out of the door and he didn't came back.
Now, his eyes were searching for something recognizable. I was holding the sides of his face saying, "Adam," "Adam," searching his gaze for awareness.
He laid there completely unaware of what happened, and was in disbelief as onlookers broke the news to him that he was assaulted.
Adam's hands were full, so he wasn't able to protect or brace himself and his head hit the pavement full-force, knocking him unconscious, or maybe the punch rendered him unconscious…
We spent the coming days in the hospital's trauma center, initially unsure if one of his two head bleeds was going to remain controlled or require surgery.
It did, thankfully, remain controlled, and he was discharged with a traumatic brain injury earlier this week. A few days later, he was in the ER for additional inflammation in his abdomen.
He is here with me. He knows he needs this care now, and I’m grateful he is sensing his limitations. This fiercely independent, peace-loving, connection-seeking, authenticly beautiful man was assaulted in a place he considered safe, surrounded by his community, and victimized on a physical and spiritual level, and my heart is broken for him.
If you know Adam, you know how much he gives of himself, his time, his energy, his heart, to cultivate spaces and experiences with the specific intention of raising our collective vibration. His art, his music, his every interaction calling us to be a better, more connected, loving, joyful, intentional version of ourselves.
And now, he needs your help, to create a space and some time for him to heal. I know his community will respond with love, support and donations to help him get through this, to heal what has been broken. Please, come through for him now.
