Support Activists Who Fought the Dirty Deal
Donation protected
On August 18th, a group of Seattle residents - including climate advocates, students, doctors, public employees, tech workers and writers - organized a meeting with Senator Patty Murray’s Seattle staff. They took action to demand that Senator Murray oppose the "dirty deal" proposed by Senator Manchin, which would have fast-tracked fossil fuel projects, including the Mountain Valley Pipeline.
Eight activists were arrested for their peaceful protest in Senator Murray's office. This was one of the first public actions to oppose Manchin's dirty deal, and it helped inspire a wave of action across the country. Our movement was ultimately successful and we stopped Manchin's deal multiple times by the end of 2022.
Now, these Seattle activists are facing about $5,000 in legal fees. They took an extra risk by holding a protest in a federal building, and the possibility of federal charges is adding to their legal bill.
Anything you can contribute will help defray the cost of this action. Not everyone can get arrested, but if we all support each other as a movement, we can continue to take the actions necessary to stop fossil fuels and protect the climate.
