Hi, my name is Abigail Nigusu, and I am a 15-year-old student from Oakland, California. This summer, I will be traveling to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and I am starting a project to support the girls who lack access to safe menstrual products. Here in the United States, most of us have easy access to menstrual products, but in other places, that isn’t the case. Countless young girls in Ethiopia suffer each month because they can’t afford period products. These children have to go about their lives using harmful and unhygienic materials as pads because they have nothing better to use. Or, they’ll have to stay home from school for days every month because of their periods and have to bear the consequences for that. Menstrual justice is something that is hardly talked about in our society, and this is something that I want to help change.

Instead of shipping products from the U.S., I’m partnering with local Ethiopian organizations that produce safe, reusable, menstrual pads right in Addis Ababa. This means your donation will go further to support local girls and create a more sustainable impact.
