****HERE IS HER STORY***
My name is April Hathaway, and I’ve spent my life serving others.
I’m a U.S. military veteran who gave ten years of service because I believed in something bigger than myself. I joined the military not just to build a future for my daughter, but because I had no family, no support system, and no real place to belong. The military was supposed to be that family. That structure. That source of peace and purpose.

In my years of service, I missed birthdays, milestones, and memories with my daughter that I will never get back. I did it all to create a stable life for her—one rooted in integrity, sacrifice, and security. I lived by those values, trusting that doing the right thing would always lead to the right outcome.

But now I find myself broken, betrayed, and alone—fighting to protect my children, my home, and the other families I serve in my care, because of the damage others caused through greed and deception.

What Happened

In 2021, I purchased what I thought would be our forever home through a VA loan—a place where I could continue raising my children and provide 24-hour in-home childcare for other families in need.

I was sold a house that was never safe to live in.
The home had major structural and legal issues that were hidden from me during the sale. Realtors, inspectors, the loan agency, and title company all had a part in passing this home off as habitable, knowing it was not up to code and was illegally constructed. I have full documentation and ongoing legal action showing that this was a coordinated act of fraud.

The damage has been life-altering:

My credit is ruined—not from irresponsible spending, but from being sold a fraudulent, uninhabitable home that I now carry the financial weight for.

I’ve had to move my children into another house, where I now operate my daycare, but the damage from the original situation continues to affect everything.

The new house needs urgent repairs to be safe and functional:

A new roof to prevent water damage and mold.

Basement waterproofing to stop ongoing flooding and destruction.

A safe back deck so children—mine and those in my care—can play and access the yard without risk.

I’ve reached out everywhere I can. I've fought tooth and nail to get justice, to get help, to just be heard. But the people and institutions who caused this have walked away, leaving me to bear it alone.

Why I’m Asking for Help

I’ve spent years helping others—veterans, families in crisis, children in need. I’ve given my time, my money, my care, and my energy to lift up people in less severe situations than my own.

Now I need someone to stand for me.
I’m not asking for charity—I’m asking for compassion. I’m asking for people to meet me where I am, not with judgment or profit in their hearts, but with the understanding that the things holding me back were done to me, not caused by me.

Every dollar donated will go directly toward:

Roof repair and replacement

Basement waterproofing and damage remediation

Building a safe deck for children’s access and outdoor play

Continued legal action and recovery for what’s been done

Please Help Me Rebuild

I’m still running my in-home childcare center—Giggles and Grins—seven days a week, 24 hours a day. I’m still showing up for children and families. I’m still trying to do right, even when the world hasn’t done right by me.

But I can’t keep doing it alone.

If you’ve ever believed in the power of community, in standing up for someone who’s been wronged, in helping a mother and veteran rebuild from devastation—please help me now.

Your support, no matter how small, helps me create safety, stability, and healing—not just for my own children, but for every child who walks through my door.

With love and gratitude,
April Hathaway
