Ernest Eugene Olara— “I fled Kenya with nothing but hope and the will to survive.
As a transgender person, I faced relentless discrimination, rejection, and hostility from society and even members of my own family. What should have been a place of belonging became a place of fear. Threats, harassment, and isolation forced me to make the painful decision to leave my home country in order to stay alive.
Two years ago, I sought asylum in the United States and have been waiting for my case to be fully resolved. While seeking safety in Minnesota, I've tried to rebuild my life with dignity. But the journey has not been easy.
Recently, increased ICE activity in my community has created overwhelming fear and instability. Just recently, my Mexican neighbor was brutally abducted in front of our building — a traumatic event that shook us all and intensified my fear for my own safety. Like many asylum seekers, my ability to work has been affected, and for the past two months, I have been unable to earn income. This has left me struggling to cover rent, utilities, food, transportation, and basic living expenses.
At the same time, my asylum case is still pending. Having a qualified immigration attorney could make the difference between safety and deportation. Legal representation is critical to properly present evidence, country conditions, and the personal persecution I endured because of my gender identity. Unfortunately, legal fees are expensive and far beyond what I can afford right now.
I am not asking for luxury. I am asking for safety. For stability. For a fair chance to present my asylum case and continue living without fear.
Your support will go toward:
• Hiring an experienced immigration attorney for my asylum case
• Covering overdue rent and preventing housing instability
• Paying essential bills and basic living expenses
Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings me closer to safety and security. If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much.
Thank you for standing with me during this critical time. Your kindness could truly change — and protect — my life.
