Support a Teacher's Fight to Keep Her Husband

Donation protected
I am a Title 1 school teacher who like most educators, lives paycheck to paycheck. I met my husband in the Fall of 2024. On our first date, we were mistaken for newlyweds. We kept waiting for the momentum to slow, and the feelings to calm, but they never did. It just stayed that way, and that's how we both knew this was something both of us wanted with each other for the rest of what life we have left. we got married in April of this year (2025).

We were too poor to do a fancy wedding or ceremony or hold a reception, so it was just a courthouse adventure. We were both more than ok with that outcome, as we love each other so much more than any big fancy party people overspend money on entertaining other people to celebrate just them for just one night. We decided it's best to just spend what was neccesary for the fees and paperwork, have a celebratory dinner together, and avoid spending anything else.

However, the future does not look so bright anymore. We looked into how to approach his immigration situation, and unfortunately, in order for me to file a document called an "I-130" to basically politely ask the American government to change his immigrant status from seeking Asylum to "married to a U.S. citizen (me)" I have to pay $625. I have spent hours and hours crying. I have probably called at least 100 "Non-Profit" lawyers/law firms, just to get hit with "well if you can come in and pay $______ ($150+) for a consultation..." which isn't much help at all in this moment.

Here is the basic cost break down of my $2,500 goal:
  • 1st - (~$435) Attorney consultation/Paperwork Assistance
  • 2nd - $625 for filing the I-130
  • 3rd - $1,440 for filing the I-485

I always thought I would be making a GoFundMe for some freak medical bill I couldn't pay, and instead, I am using it to beg the world for enough money to fight the beautocratic and corrupt swamp that we call "Immigration Services" to keep my husband by my side. I don't know what kind of dystopic life I am living to have to make this page, but he is all I have left.

I don't care about being poor, as long as I have my husband.
We eat chicken hearts and pig's tail or whatever is the cheapest cut of meat at the farmer's market. We bulk our food with cabbage to keep it cheap but filling and nutritious. We find ways to endure these more recent hard times and still be happy. We always make life work together, which is the entire point of marriage.

My husband has a "check-in" with ICE (which used to be routine and normal, but now people are getting snatched up doing this) in August. His final court date isn't for a year. We have a long road ahead of us, and this is only the first step of many. I desperately need to raise at least $625 by the end of July 2025 in order to at least file the I-130 to prevent or dissuade the Immigration system from trying to fully dismiss his Asylum case or deport him like they are to so many innocent people.

I am only one of many voices in pain right now asking for financial help to keep my family together. But I am hoping that you would be willing to support us, so that we may become better and stronger and able to financially support others in turn once we win this part of our battle and my husband is able to get a greencard to work.
