Dear believers, friends, family, and compassionate strangers

I am reaching out with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for help. A dear sister has a son who is currently homeless and battling severe mental illness. He is waiting to be approved for medical insurance and disability benefits, but the process here in Georgia is painfully slow — time is something she simply do not have and funds have run out.

Despite our best efforts, getting the critical services he needs has been a constant uphill battle. The mental health system is broken, especially for those who are uninsured and in crisis. Quality psychiatric care is almost impossible to access without financial resources. For example, one month in a private psychiatric facility can cost upwards of $30,000 — an amount far beyond what she can afford. These are the only places equipped to provide consistent, supervised care for someone like her son who needs to be stabilize.

Unfortunately, most free programs, shelters, or transitional homes are not equipped to handle individuals in active psychosis or those dealing with severe episodes. As a result, he's been turned away or discharged prematurely — sent right back to the streets where the cycle of instability continues. Her son has been caught in this cycle for far too long.

Every day we fear for his safety, his health, and his future. The sister is doing everything she can as a parent, but she can’t do this alone. Many attempts have been made to house him with family and close friends, and the realization of the severity of this condition leads us back to the realization that he needs hands on treatment and therapy.

We are raising funds to cover the cost of temporary housing, psychiatric care, medications, and basic needs while we wait for his insurance and disability to come through. Even a short stay in a proper facility could make a life-changing difference — giving him the chance to stabilize, heal, and build a path forward.
