My name is Damond Edwards, and I’m the founder of the SoHum Giants and the Southern Humboldt Youth Sports Association (SHYSA). I’m raising funds to build something our community has needed for generations: a safe, year‑round indoor gymnasium and youth center for the kids of Southern Humboldt.
Right now, more than 1,000 local youth have no access to consistent after‑school programs, indoor sports, or safe spaces during the long winter months. This lack of resources has contributed to rising mental‑health challenges, inactivity, and limited opportunities for positive connection.
We are working to change that.
Your support will help us launch the Southern Humboldt Sports Facility — a 10,000 sq. ft. multisport facility in Redway that will provide basketball, fitness, mentorship, esports, tutoring, and community programs for over 1,500 youth every year. This space will be a home for growth, safety, and belonging.
Every donation brings us one step closer to giving our kids the opportunities, support, and hope they deserve.
Your donation will help us:
Launch after-school programs and open gym hours
Equip youth with uniforms, gear, and safety equipment
Hire local coaches and mentors
Cover utilities, insurance, and startup costs
Provide storage and operational space for our partners
Our 501(c)(3) application is pending, and all funds will be used exclusively for youth programming and facility activation. While donations are not yet tax-deductible, your support will directly impact hundreds of local young people.
Together, we can build a safe, empowering, and community-driven space for the next generation of Humboldt leaders. Thank you for believing in this vision and helping us build a stronger future for Southern Humboldt’s youth.
