This fall, we're joining Welcome Corps to help resettle a refugee family in the DC - Maryland - Virginia (DMV) area. Through your partnership, we will provide the family with financial support for their first 90 days in the U.S. and help them find housing, employment, healthcare/mental health services, and cultural connections in their new community. Your help is critical, as refugees who opt for resettlement through a sponsor circle forgo many initial government benefits.
Help us reach our goal of $15,000!
- $10 will provide for basic household necessities, such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and feminine hygiene products

- $50 will cover a month of WiFi
- $150 will stock the pantry for a week or fully load a Washington Metro (WMATA) card for a month

FAQS »
Why $15K?
When a refugee is resettled by the U.S. government, they receive $2,375 to cover all their expenses including housing for the first 90 days. *Keep in mind the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in DC for one month is ~$2000.* As private sponsors for a refugee family, we have the opportunity to not only meet but exceed what the government provides in order to ensure all their needs—including safe, comfortable housing, food, clothing, healthcare, and more—are met. This is why we landed on 15K total as our goal.
Can I support in ways other than giving money?
Yes! We greatly appreciate your prayers, encouraging words, and good vibes throughout this process. Additionally, if you live in the DC area and have *new or gently used* in-kind donations such as bedroom or living room furniture, essential kitchen items, etc., please reach out to one of our sponsor circle members. Please note that we will assess our current needs before accepting any in-kind donations and will not accept items that are not new or gently used.
What is private sponsorship?
You can learn more about private sponsorship by checking out this fact sheet released by the U.S. Department of State in January 2023.
