Support a Neighbor in Need This Holiday Season

Hi neighbors,

If you drive along Kildaire Farm Rd or Sunset Lake Rd often, you have probably noticed a gentleman often walking along the side of the road.

I see him walking so frequently that I've often considered stopping to offer to gift him a bike in hopes that may make his life and/or commute a little easier. I have turned around twice within the past month after driving by him, but ended up not approaching for whatever reason - mainly that I didn't know what to say and I definitely didn't want to offend him. This past weekend I saw him and decided that I couldn't ignore that feeling that I needed to at least offer something. So I found a safe spot with lots of people traveling by and got out of my car.

He seemed hesitant as I gave a brief wave at him from the other side of the road. He slowly approached, still looking hesitant. I told him that I had noticed him walking by many times over the past couple of years and I was just wondering if my family could gift him a bike if that was something that he would want. He kindly stated that he had no where to keep a bike. I asked if there was anything else that my family could do that would help him in any way, if that was something that he wanted. He seemed shocked. After a few seconds, he shared that he could use some shoes, pants, and hoodies. I asked how I could get him these things and he provided an email address.

After emailing, he shared that there are two churches where he sometimes stays, which would be a good meeting point. I asked if there was anything more that would really help him this holiday season. He responded that baseball caps, clippers to maintain his hair and beard would be really useful.

One other thing he mentioned is that having the chance to stay in a local hotel for even a night or two would make a huge difference to him — mainly for a warm shower and a safe place to rest.

My family has decided to gift him clothes, shoes, socks, gloves, caps, and the clippers. We are creating this gofundme for him with the intention to use all donations specifically for gift cards - 1) Clarion hotel gift cards 2) VISA gift cards so he can get food wherever he'd like and/or 3) Gift cards to nearby restaurants (McDonalds, ChickfilA, etc.)

I plan to shop for gift cards this Friday, Nov. 21st and then drop it off at one of these specific churches that day as well.

If you feel moved to help someone local in need this holiday season, I know he will be appreciative of anything, big or small.
