I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of a brother in our community who wishes to remain anonymous. He recently moved here with his wife and young child and is working tirelessly, but still struggling to make ends meet.
Their story is difficult but important to share:
They moved here 2 months ago from Michigan. Their baby became very sick there with RSV at just 4 months old. Doctors told them there wasn't much they could do, and their child had to be put on IVs.
In desperation, they traveled back to Iraq, where doctors, hospitals, and medication were more accessible for their baby. Alhamdulillah, their child received treatment, but almost all of their savings were spent during this time.
When they returned to the U.S., he began driving Uber full-time, sometimes 12 hours a day, just to survive. He also had to purchase furniture and essentials for their home, which left him with more expenses and almost no money left.
He applied for food stamps but was denied because, on paper, Uber looks like “good income.” In reality, the expenses he faces (car, gas, credit cards, food, and housing) leave him unable to cover basic needs.
The war in Iraq also made things worse: airports shut down while he was there, keeping him stuck for almost a month and forcing him to spend even more money.
Today, this brother is 3 months late on credit card payments, struggling to buy food for his family, and living day to day with no safety net. Despite all of this, he continues to work tirelessly for his wife and young son (now 1 year old).
This fundraiser is to help cover:
Rent and overdue bills
Food for his family
Essential expenses to get them back on their feet
Every dollar will go directly to this family. Even the smallest donation helps ease their burden. If you cannot give, please make duaa for them and share this fundraiser with others.
May Allah reward you for helping a family in need, and may He ease their hardships.
