Dear friends, clients, and family,
I'm reaching out to you today with a heart full of worry, to share a deeply personal and urgent situation concerning my husband. Many of you know him, have sat in his barber chair, shared stories, and witnessed his resilience. Now, he faces the devastating threat of deportation.
In 1991, at the age of five, he arrived in America. Imagine the experience – a new country, a new language, and a difficult start. He faced poverty, isolation due to the language barrier, and the trauma of a challenging home life.
At 16, trying to protect his brother, he made a decision that drastically altered his life. An altercation led to six years in prison. Even after demonstrating rehabilitation and being released early, he faced the constant threat of deportation.
For years, he lived under this threat, reporting annually. Despite this, he built a life: our family, his business, a testament to his strength. Many of you have witnessed this growth firsthand.
Now, his life is in jeopardy. Shifting immigration policies have opened the door to deportation to Vietnam, a country he barely remembers, and the very real possibility of detention. Crucially, Vietnam is now accepting individuals in his situation, and it's highly likely this will happen this year. He could be taken away any day. He faces the devastating prospect of being separated from our family and losing everything he's worked for.
Our family is his anchor. The thought of him being torn from us, of missing our children's milestones, and of not being here for me, is unbearable. This situation casts a shadow over our lives, creating constant dread. The emotional impact on our family is immeasurable.
This is more than a legal battle; it's a fight for a transformed life, a fight against the injustice of separating a family. We need to raise awareness about his situation and the challenges facing others like him.
If you feel moved to share his story with your network, to amplify his voice, we would be deeply grateful. It's vital that people understand what is happening.
Specifically, of the funds raised, $25,000 is for the criminal lawyer alone to file for reopening his case. The remaining funds will go towards living expenses, legal fees related to immigration, and other necessary costs to support our family during this incredibly difficult time.
I'm sharing something deeply personal, so please share only with those who will offer support and understanding. There is no pressure to share. We appreciate your support and are truly grateful for the connections you've built with him.
