It’s one thing to experience the loss of a close family member. It’s another to have all of your belongings stripped from you a mere two weeks later, while in the process of moving to help take care of your remaining loved ones. Mary and Anthony Martinez, along side their son Josh and his partner Juan, decided it was time to be closer to family as it was discovered that Mary’s father, Alex, was diagnosed with a treatable cancer that was not supposed take his life. In April, however, he experienced a rapid decline and sadly lost his battle.

During this time, Alex's daughter had to take a leave of absence from work to help care for him and then plan his funeral. The family then had a week to pack up all of their belongings to move from Oklahoma to Arizona to attend their grandfather's funeral and move into the house next door to their now widowed grandmother, who days after their grandfather's passing, fell and broke her leg thus having to move to a rehabilitation center.

The intent behind the move was to be able to care for both her father and mother, as she is also disabled. During the preparation for the move, Alex passed away. Now, not only did Mary have to prepare for a funeral, but she also had to put her entire life in boxes and move across the country.

During the move, at a Hampton Inn & Suites in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a moving van containing ALL of Mary, Anthony, Josh and Juan’s belongings was stolen. Not only were electronics, clothes, furniture and appliances taken, but sentimental items from family members that mean so much during this difficult time were also taken. They had their whole life in that truck. Gone. We are asking for some aid to help this family get back on their feet after this tremendous loss.
