Hi there, and thank you so much for visiting my page. PLEASE READ:
This gofundme was created by me, Ava, on behalf of my partner Ana and her family. Ana is originally from Spain, and is living and studying in the UK. Around 2 years ago, Ana's father Paco was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic lung cancer. Following this diagnosis, and the beginning of treatments such as chemotherapy, his health declined quickly - leaving him completely unable to work. For the last year, Paco has been going through trial treatments because the chemo was not working. Unfortunately, none of these treatments have been successful. This has been incredibly difficult for them all, and has meant Ana's mother Gema was left responsible for supporting the family financially and taking care of their home; up until this point, Gema had been a stay at home mother, and she had to learn a new skill quickly in order to bring in enough to keep them afloat, working as a pet groomer. I honestly don't think I've seen her take a day off in 2 years.
It has been a long and painful journey, and Ana, who has been unable to move back to Spain because she is in the middle of her degree, has been incredibly strong; supporting her family in every way she can, travelling tirelessly between the UK and Spain at every possible moment, and never going a day without checking in with them all.
In a heart breaking turn of events, last week Ana's father was given an estimate of a few months left to live. And along with this devastating news, came another shock: they are at risk of losing their house. This is their family home, that Ana and her sister were born in. They have never known anything else. I will explain how this has occurred in the next paragraph:
When Paco became ill and unable to work, financial arrangements were put in place to ensure they could continue to live in their home. This was a complicated procedure, but it essentially means that the mortgage of the house was bought by an external company, who then sold it on to another company. They allowed them to continue living there, but are now considering selling it. Paco, even in his current state, is on a mission to buy their house back to ensure his family remain safe when he is gone. His lawyer is working tirelessly, and has managed to make contact with the external owner to make a deal. Some more distant family members are willing to sacrifice their life savings to make this happen, but even then, they will be around £20,000 short.
I am reaching out to our community to try and raise a fraction of this amount, to put towards buying them their home back. I have felt every moment of devastation throughout this process, and have witnessed a family left with nothing continue to give each other everything - there is no family more deserving of a safe place to live whilst they are grieving.
As a partner to someone who is grieving, you often feel helpless. Ana has never asked for anything, she has never complained, never given up, never allowed herself to become defeated by the monumental weight on her shoulders and in her heart since the day her dad was diagnosed. This is my way of trying to give something to her and to her family, to ease their pain. Please help me by sharing their story, so that this page can reach far beyond our small community.
Paco is a wonderful father, who has given every thing and more to his family. They, in return, have cared for him every waking minute up until this point. Please help me, help them.
Thank you for reading, Ava.
