I'm a proud single mom to three amazing children. Aiden is 16, Leah is 18, and Joey is 20. Joey has both Down syndrome and autism; he is nonverbal.
I am also disabled due to a brain injury in 2020 that triggered a multitude of other health problems. I had to sadly quit working in the field I truly loved. I am now facing losing the house we've rented for over 16 years due to our landlord's own financial difficulties. She has to sell our rental house to save her own home…
Due to Joey having issues with change and also how loud he is, apartment housing is not ideal for us or for anyone who would be living around us. This poor kid has gone through more in life than most of us could even imagine, as have I after my TBI.
For over 16 years, we've called our current house home, and Joey has lived here since he was three years old. This place is more than just a roof over our heads—it's where Joey feels safe, comfortable, and supported. As we face the challenge of securing a decent down payment, I'm reaching out for help to keep Joey in the home he knows and loves and also the neighborhood who knows and loves Joey as well. I have no family in CT, but we're staying in CT for my children's father and his family.
Having our own home would mean stability and independence for both of us. Right now, the uncertainty of not knowing if we can stay is overwhelming, especially given our unique needs. Your support will go directly toward the down payment and closing costs, making it possible for us to stay together in a place that truly feels like home.
I have been also looking for another rental just in case but sadly can't find anything within my price range. It would actually be the same to pay a mortgage on this house more than to rent somewhere else. And sadly there is an 8 year wait for Section 8 housing and other low income options.
It takes a village to raise a child with special needs, especially as a single mom who's also disabled. Any support means the world to us, and we're deeply grateful for every donation and share. Thank you for helping us build a brighter, more secure future especially for Joey.
