Why is it so Hard for Dads to Get Custody? — Help a Deserving Dad Win
Hi! I’m Emma — stepmom to two incredible kids (ages 12 and 14) and wife to their loving, devoted father. We’re raising $75,000 to hire a top-tier legal team to help us gain full custody of these kids after two lengthy, expensive, and heartbreaking court battles over the years.
Despite doing everything right, my husband continues to be overlooked by the court system — simply because he’s not the mother. As a woman, it’s been incredibly frustrating to watch an amazing man who shows up for his kids every single day lose in court for reasons that have nothing to do with his fitness as a parent.
We’ve tried to address concerns with their mother directly and asked to work this out outside of court — but she refuses. We’ve exhausted every option except this one.
Why We Need These Funds
- To request a change of venue from North Carolina to Virginia, where the kids have lived for the last six years. In Virginia, a 14-year-old can tell the judge where they want to live — and the court will listen.
- In North Carolina, their voices have been ignored.
- Both children want to live with us full-time.
- The remaining funds will go toward legal fees to modify our current custody order, which currently gives their mother primary physical custody.
Since the 2019 custody order, we’ve documented hundreds of incidents and violations — along with clear cries for help from the children. We’ve done the hard work. We have the evidence. Now we just need the legal team to help us fight for them.
These children are longing for a stable home where they have their own beds and rooms, privacy, and the space every growing child deserves. They want to be in a place where they feel safe, supported, and free to be themselves — without fear of punishment, judgment, racism, or rejection.
They need a peaceful environment where they can express their feelings without fear of yelling or abusive language. A home where healthy meals are provided, where they can depend on their emotional and physical needs being met, and where they receive consistent attention, care, and love. Most of all, they need to feel heard — without being pressured to hide the truth about their daily lives.
We just want to give them the life they’re asking for — and deserve.
Please donate, share, or both. Every bit helps bring us closer to giving these children the life they’ve been fighting for.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and believing in our family.
