We are raising funds for Catrice Jackson and her husband to travel to Cameroon with African Ancestry to experience her ancestral land. As a mother, grandmother, educator, and author, Catrice pours so much of herself into others. We would love to see this campaign fully funded so that Catrice can make this trip of a lifetime. Please contribute generously and share this campaign with your network!
Imagine discovering your ancestry as an adult. For Catrice, and so many descendants of enslaved Africans like her, this has become possible in recent years due to African Ancestry DNA testing. Catrice learned that she is Cameroonian, specifically descended from the Tikar, Kotoko, and Mafa tribes.
Catrice’s dream is to visit her ancestral homeland, to step foot on the African ground where her ancestors lived and loved. Catrice has stated, “I need a Sankofa moment. Sankofa is an African word meaning ‘go back and get it or to reclaim.’ Through generations of captivity and oppression, Black folks have had their ancestral heritage and traditions taken away. Many of us don't know our native tongue, our tribal traditions, or our ancestral healing practices. I need to go back and get it. I need to put my feet on the ground in the Motherland. I need to speak to my elders, ancestors, and tribal community. I need to be washed in African tradition and do some releasing and spiritual healing at HOME.”
She has the opportunity to do this through the group that helped her discover her ancestry: African Ancestry Family Reunion®.
As African Ancestry describes on their website: “In partnership with various government officials, Kings and Queens, local communities, businesses and cultural organizations, we will explore history and engage our Cameroonian kith and kin authentically, respectfully and with love. We work in partnership with various Ministries, government officials, local communities, businesses and cultural organizations, to create an unforgettable reconnection to your family’s roots.
"This journey goes far and beyond your average tourist trip! We will learn our histories and give back to our brothers and sisters in Cameroon with lots of love, laughter and respect. You haven't seen Cameroon like this before!”
When this campaign is fully funded, it will cover airfare, the African Ancestry tour package, and incidentals for Catrice and her husband. We lovingly invite you to help Catrice and her husband experience Sankofa, finally.
This campaign is managed by the Socially Conscious Women's Collective (SCWC), a collective of white women finding their humanity through justice and love, with the leadership of Black woman educator and anti-racism expert Catrice Jackson.
