Support A Beloved Member of Our Refettorio Harlem Staff

We're reaching out to our community to support someone who means so much to us at Refettorio Harlem.
Our beloved security guard and mentor, Joe, is going through an incredibly difficult time. His mother, Victoria Smith — a 75-year-old mother of ten — was recently diagnosed with stage four cancer. The news has been devastating for their family. On top of the emotional weight, they are now facing financial hardship, as they've also discovered that due to health complications, her life insurance was unknowingly canceled.
Victoria has always been a strong, reassuring presence in Joe's life — someone who told him everything would always be alright. Now, as her health rapidly declines, he wants nothing more than to be by her side and help prepare for what may come.
We are hoping to raise $5,000 to allow him to take time off work, be with his family, and help them manage the unexpected costs they are now facing. He is not only a dedicated protector of our space, but also a powerful role model to the young men who come through our doors. He shows up every day with compassion and strength — now it's our turn to show up for him.
Please consider donating whatever you can, and sharing this campaign with others. Every bit of support makes a difference.
With gratitude,
The Refettorio Harlem Family
