Hello, my name is Lillian Bankes. May 22nd, 2025, I lost my son Dashtyn Wayne Scott Bankes to stillbirth. I suffered from medical malpractice and negligence from the hospital I was admitted at. At the end of April, I started gaining a rapid amount of weight and my blood pressure would stay at 135/90, which was extremely abnormal for me as I was originally hypotensive. I immediately let my OBGYN about my worries, and they insisted I was fine and that these could possibly be normal symptoms as I was young. Although, working became extremely difficult I was having a difficult time just standing , or sitting by myself. I would get extreme pain to the point I would sob, but they would again just insist it was Braxton hicks or my son trying to make room, without evaluating me. One day the pain got so bad I had to go to the hospital from work, and when I got there they did my vitals and my BP was staying at 140/90 almost 150/100 , so they decided to do a 24/hr urine test, and my results came back that I had 4078ml of protein in my urine , which is an insane amount. I had every markers for preeclampsia and they didn’t do a single thing about it. After they got the results for my urine they didn’t do anything about it they told me I had to wait for a specialist to call me, so I waited and never received a call, I continued working because they cleared
me and told me I was able to even though I told them I thought I had preeclampsia and they insisted it wasn’t preeclampsia and that if it was preeclampsia they would know. It was May 17th , I was working my normal 11-4 , I felt fine. I got home and was taking my blood pressure like I usually do just to keep an eye on it because it was already pretty high, and it read at 160/109 , so we knew I had to go to the hospital because my blood pressure could have gotten dangerously high. When we got there and they started my vitals, and my sons vitals, my
blood pressure jumped up to 170/110 , my heart rate started slowing down, and I was becoming extremely lethargic, my sons vitals were great , the nurses all came running in with magnesium and a bunch of medications that would prevent me from having a seizure or stroke because my blood pressure was staying at 170-190/110-120. They had also given me steroid in my right thigh for my son’s lungs , waited 30 minutes and gave me my other shot in my left thigh for his lungs. At this point I was in a state of shock but my son’s heartbeat and feeling him move kept me going. Although while all of this was happening if my blood pressure didn’t go down they knew they were gonna have to either induce me or have an emergency c section and they didn’t have NICU so they admitted me to OSU in Columbus , Ohio. When I first got there I was in a room to get evaluated for all of my symptoms , then a doctor later came in and told me I had severe preeclampsia and if I didn’t catch it any sooner i probably would have been in a much worse state. He sat down told me my entire plan, said they were gonna try and push me to 34 weeks (currently 31 weeks and a few days) because my son was measuring just a little small , and that they were gonna keep the both of us on monitor very closely until that point, and then he would’ve stayed in the NICU until he reached 4-5 pounds. They then moved me to my maternal risk room, and this is where the negligence starts. They only put my son on a monitor when I asked, my son was never on monitor for longer than 30 minutes a day. I was left alone in my room for the entirety of the day unless they came in to take my vitals and give me medicine. Which they were giving me 800mg of ibeuprofen and 650mg of Tylenol every time they gave me pain medicine. I got 1 ultrasound and it was when I had first gotten there , and I had asked for no students to come in and do my scans because I was going through a very traumatic time and they still let student come in and work on me. I felt like a guinea pig for some kind of experiment, that cost me my son. On May 21st, in the middle of the night I woke up and called my nurse in because I had a stomach pain (my son was not on monitor , they seriously ONLY DID IT ONCE A DAY) it had felt like someone just punched my in my stomach full force, and it lingered . She gave me pain medicine and insisted I try and get some rest and said we would put my son on monitor tomorrow. I woke up the next morning with an even worst stomach pain that still felt like someone punched me directly in my gut. I told my nurses again and they told me to go get something to eat and when I come back they would put my son on monitor. I got back at around 1pm, the nurse then proceeded to put my son on monitor and couldn’t find his heartbeat. Pronounced him deceased at 1:37pm with an ultrasound. I got induced that night at 6pm, and had him at 3:17pm May 22nd, 2025. I’m starting this go fund me to hopefully get my son a tombstone at a beautiful cemetery to honor him, and so that way I can have a place to go visit and It can make me feel like I’m at least close to my son. We had a whole life of plans, and I feel like it could’ve been prevented in so so many ways. I love you forever dash , this is all for you son!
