This group as well as all the others seeking refuge in South Sudan will have to relocate again soon, which could mean being put in even more dangerous situations than they already are. The tentative peace they’ve achieved is at risk of collapse.

They need housing, now.

This is URGENT. The situation is dire and getting worse.

They will need $1300-1500 for enough housing to protect all of them in the camp, upwards of 500 souls.

Please help however you can!

The situation on the ground in Sudan is unlivable.

It has been unlivable for some time now due to the political upsets and violence wracking the area; it has become much worse since Trump’s administration cut USAID, ending many peoples’ access to lifesaving medical care in the region, and furthermore halted entry to the USA for any immigrants not expressly approved by his White House, ie, white South Africans.

Groups of queer refugees have been pushed from camp to camp throughout the region, seeking no more than to survive until their fortunes turn and they can find safety and security elsewhere. They are stuck in this limbo, living out of tents and cooking over open fires, until their cases are processed by UNHCR, which can take years.

This group in particular was in a refugee camp in Kakuma, Kenya for several years until they were forcibly relocated, with several others, to Gorom in South Sudan.

Even though these unbelievably strong people have been doing their best to lay low and just survive, the local communities, influenced by the loud homophobia and transphobia reverberating around the world, claim they are demons, and sometimes literally chase them away, beat them into hospitalization they cannot afford, and worse.

I first met these groups on Bluesky, and have since spoken with them extensively, verified their identities, and have been grateful to be able to help them survive some truly awful circumstances.

All amounts are welcome, every penny makes a difference; while these groups are working toward long-term security, survival funds are also necessary in the meantime.

These are diverse groups of wonderful people who, for safety reasons, cannot show too much of their identities; those who feel safe to do so have shared harrowing and human stories of perseverance against all odds.

Challenges of daily life in their refugee camps include

* Feeding their group, including children;
* Securing safe and sustainable housing, including furniture and utensils;
* Finding medical supplies, including those for menstruation and childcare;
* Keeping their phones in working order and connected to internet to access care and support just like this.

Finding work, much less maintaining it, is difficult to impossible in their current situation, living out of communally shared tents. They want to find secure housing that will allow them to not only survive, also to thrive and experience the joys of a safe livelihood that we all should enjoy.

I am gathering funds and sending them directly to the groups;

* Some funds will be used for more immediate survival needs, such as food, cooking materials and utensils, emergency medical bills/supplies, etc;
* Other funds will be kept and accumulated into a longer-term survival fund, to pay for safe housing and to empower this group of survivors to not only live, but thrive.

Each week, I’ll be updating this campaign with specific weekly budgets and needs, right at the top.

Please reach out to me for any questions at all, I’m happy to verify their authenticity as well as share what of their stories they allow.

Thank you so much for making a difference ❤️
