I’m writing this as a mom.

Both of my kids, Nico and Mia, have taken lessons with Mr. Tony at Avant Garde Music Company here in Eastlake, and I honestly can’t say enough good things about him or this place. He is one of those teachers you hope your child gets at least once in their life.

Mr. Tony doesn’t just teach music. He’s patient, encouraging, and truly cares about each child who walks through his door. He meets kids where they are, helps them build confidence, and makes learning feel safe and exciting. Seeing my kids walk out of their lessons feeling proud and supported has meant more to me than I can put into words.

What started as music lessons turned into something much bigger. This studio has become a second home for so many families in the Chula Vista and Eastlake community. It’s a place where kids feel seen and creativity is encouraged.

This past year has been especially hard for Tony. He had a tumor removed and needed time to recover, which brought challenges on many levels. Even through all of that, he continued to show up for his students and give his heart to this studio. Anyone who knows him knows how much he truly cares about these kids.

For the last few years, the studio was incredibly lucky to have access to beautiful Steinway and Yamaha pianos that were loaned by a local piano dealer. The day before Christmas, Mr. Tony was given about an hour’s notice that the owner would be coming to retrieve all of the pianos. With such little notice, the studio was suddenly left without the instruments the students had been learning and performing on, which put Mr. Tony and the studio in a very difficult position.

These pianos are essential. Avant Garde Music Company is an official Guild Audition Center for the American College of Musicians, which allows students to audition locally, receive recognition, qualify for scholarships, and strengthen college applications. Without proper instruments, those opportunities are at risk.

The studio is working toward purchasing three professional-quality pianos so students can continue learning at the level they deserve. The goal is $15,000, which will go directly toward purchasing the instruments. Any additional funds will help with delivery, tuning, and setup.

I started this fundraiser because this studio has given so much to my kids and to so many families I know. Places like this don’t just exist on their own... they survive because a community believes in them.
