It is with a heavy heart that I share the story of my 8 young cousins from the Somali region of Ethiopia who have just lost their beloved father on May 10th, after he bravely battled severe health complications for the last 6 months. He was their sole provider, and now, suddenly, they are left behind with little to nothing.

These children are orphans now, and their lives have changed in an instant. The burden of survival has fallen upon their young shoulders, and their family is struggling to meet basic needs, food, clothing, school supplies, and shelter.

Today is the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, a day of immense mercy and reward. The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The one who relieves a hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve a hardship for them on the Day of Judgment."

(Sahih Muslim)

We are reminded on this day of the importance of standing with those who are vulnerable, especially orphans, whom Allah has elevated in status in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

This fundraiser is being launched to help ease the hardship on their family and ensure these children are cared for and supported in this incredibly difficult time.
