Our 5th graders are organizing a walk-a-thon to raise funds for clean water in South Sudan. As part of their learning experience, students read the book A Long Walk to Water, which tells the inspiring story of Salva Dut, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. This unit not only highlights the conflict in the region but also sheds light on the water crisis faced by many countries around the world.
Last year, our fundraiser involved a coin donation campaign, and we successfully raised over $1,200. We invite you to consider donating to this worthy cause to help provide access to clean water for those in need. Thank you for your support!
Why support Water for South Sudan:
• More than 2 million children in South Sudan do not attend school.
• Children—mostly girls—walk up to four miles (6.5 km) per day to a water source.
• Jerrycans filled with water can weigh up to 40 pounds (18 kg) when full of water.
• Girls (sometimes boys) use jerrycans to collect water for their families.
• Walking for water leaves little time for education, especially for girls.
