Hello,
My name is Emma, and I am fundraising to support Sauti ya Dada Kenya Community-based Organization (CBO) in purchasing and supplying menstrual hygiene kits to school girls in Kitui Rural Sub-County in Kenya.
Kitui County, where I was born and raised, is a semi-arid area where many families live below the poverty line. As such, they can barely afford basic needs, including menstrual hygiene products. As I grew up, I witnessed many girls miss classes during their menstrual periods, something that has not changed for most of the population of girls who are underprivileged and marginalized. Lack of sanitary pads remains a major cause of increased absenteeism in schools, with some girls opting to stay home during their menstrual flow to avoid the embarrassment and anxiety that comes with a lack of menstrual products.
To enhance awareness, build girls’ capacity for sexual and reproductive health, remove the barriers to accessibility, affordability, and availability of sexual and reproductive health services, my friends and I formed Sauti-ya Dada Kenya CBO four years ago. We are currently organizing the 4th phase of a school activity to provide 450 school girls with menstrual hygiene kits ($10 per kit) and to offer menstrual hygiene management education. The activity will take place on May 28th- World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
The project aims to empower girls to feel in control of their reproductive health during their menstrual periods. Again, it will enhance girls’ access and retention in learning institutions as they confidently attend school during their menstrual period, eliminating barriers to their learning.
I am requesting your donation to make this project a success.
We can not do this without your support!
Thank you.
