My name is Sunshine, a 38 year old single mother of six beautiful children, ages 18, 17, 16, 12, 11, and 3. I am currently a full-time Fresno City College student, majoring in Medical Assisting. I plan to graduate with an Associates in Science Degree in the Spring/Summer of 2019. I am currently employed at Fresno City College as a Student Aide.
This "Get Out!" challenge was created by me, for the benefit of my children and myself. "Get Out" relates to my family getting out of the neighborhood that we currently live in.
This past two years has been the hardest years I’ve ever been through in my life. I had been married for 18 years, but due to unfortunate matters, got divorced. I had no idea that that divorce would cause a huge butterfly effect in my life and in the lives of my children.
After the divorce, in 2017, I had virtually nothing. No money, no home of my own, no job, and no transportation. I also went from a stay-at-home mom who home-schooled her children, to a stay-at-school mom who had to send her kids to public school. I was pretty much starting from scratch. All I had was my six children.
Being a low-income family, my six children and me moved to our Central Fresno neighborhood a year and a half ago believing it to be a fairly safe and quiet area. Much to our surprise, it was not. I understand that no place is entirely safe, but how many can honestly say that in this past year they have experienced frequent shootings and even a couple deaths, right across the street from them; many occurring during afternoon hours?
Now for some, it's "normal", it's the "ghetto", the "hood", or "that's just the way it is." But for my children and me, it is NOT. As a parent, it is my responsibility, to the best of my ability, to provide a safe and healthy environment for my children. We do not feel safe here. Each day, as I walk my three year old son to daycare, I say a prayer for safety. Having to live with the daily fear of one of us possibly not making it home that day, is tormenting.
We want OUT!
I am reaching out to you all! Family, friends, and strangers, asking for your support in this "Get Out" challenge.
The funds donated for this fundraiser will be used to pay off an unpaid broken lease that I have, which occurred a few years ago at a time when my spouse was out of work and unable to afford the rent . The total amount owed is $4,611.08, which I am trying to raise by April of 2019, when my current lease expires.
Once this broken lease is paid off, it will either be erased from my credit, or will appear on my credit as an owing balance of $0. This will allow me to qualify for the housing we need in a better, safer neighborhood.
Removing this broken lease is also very important to me because it is the ONLY negative item I have on my credit, and once it is paid off, I will actually be debt free!! This will give me an opportunity in the future to try and purchase my very first home.

In addition to this GoFundMe challenge, I plan to do additional fundraising and saving, applying those funds to this campaign and will keep you all updated with our progress.
Once I can get my family and me situated, my ultimate goal would be to give back into the community, and possibly even help someone else "Get Out!"
We will be grateful for any amount you can donate. If you are unable to donate, that is okay, we will gladly accept your prayers and best wishes.
Thank you all so much for your consideration and time.
