Sunshine Fire Protection District 2020 Fundraiser

Donation protected
Welcome to our 2020 online fundraiser for our volunteer fire department.  As much as we would love to hold our annual Community Fest fundraiser and gathering, we feel it is not feasible to hold such a big event at this time. We are hoping to plan an alternative event in the future if it is feasible. With this in mind, please keep Saturday, August 29th and September 5th open if possible. We are very disappointed with this decision, but feel this is necessary to keep everyone safe. Even though we are unable to get together we still have a financial gap to keep the fire department prepared for a response as well as keeping our firefighters and community safe.

During these challenging times, your continuous support both physically and financially is needed and greatly appreciated. Therefore, please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Sunshine Fire Protection District.  Our goal is to raise $15,000 with a stretch goal of $20,000.  Read the 2020 Funds Justification section below to learn more about how these funds will help our community.

Donations can be made in the following two ways:

Those who donate $125 and up will receive a special Sunshine Fire Protection District T-shirt  (see design below) in either a men’s or women’s size. If you can afford a donation of $500 or more, you will receive a Sunshine Fire Protection District sweatshirt.  Include your contact information in your donation comments. Care was taken to choose the softest most fashionable t-shirt/sweatshirt materials and cuts.  Shirts and Sweatshirts will be ordered after the conclusion of this fundraiser (tentative date of September 30, 2020).  Anticipate several weeks after the completion to receive your item.

2020 Funds Justification

The Sunshine Fire Protection District continues to be an all-volunteer fire department. Our generous volunteers are committed to this great community and have not hesitated to run calls during this pandemic.  They deeply care about your health and safety and are committed to responding – 24/7. Whether it is a house fire, a wildfire, medical emergency on the road or home, car or cycling accident, COVID-19 case, lift assist, they are always first on the scene. They continuously train and are ready to serve the district residents as well as our neighboring districts and the general public.

This year our fire department has been working extra hard to prepare for the possibility of COVID-19 calls in our community. They have undergone additional training, modified their protocols, spent countless hours securing PPE in an impossible marketplace while incurring additional costs. They also continue to coordinate closely with County and State resources. They do all of this to make sure you are safe. So far this year SFPD has run 6 medical calls where COVID-19 was suspected. This is approximately 12% of the calls year to date.

SFPD is also in the process of purchasing a new fire truck to replace the 1979 white fire truck that Sunshine acquired in 1994. We will receive the new truck in 2021 and will have many items that have to be purchased and added to the new fire truck to make it an effective response vehicle. The department will try to reuse as much as possible but will need to purchase new hoses, a mobile radio as well as portable radios and chargers, medical equipment, portable generator, thermal imaging camera, gas detector, halligan, handtools, portable scene light, portable stream lights, wildland bladder bags, and high-pressure air bottles. The additional expenditures will total approximately $27,000.

Thank you for your support and generosity and please stay safe!

Regards,

SFPD Fundraising Committee
