Sundance Firekeeper's Kitchen Support

Donation protected

It is that time of year again when our family and it's extensions prepare for Sundance in South Dakota on the Rosebud Lakota Reservation. This is our third year running the Firekeeper's Kitchen and it's a unique year where we want to offer more than we ever have in the way of support for the entire Sundance community. We are so blessed to have returning volunteers to continue working in the kitchen this year and possibly some new faces.

We are asking for your help in raising funds to purchase food and supplies. We will be providing three meals a day for two weeks for 20-30 people including Firekeepers, Sundancers, Supporters, and anyone who comes to our camp hungry. Our beloved Fire Chief David Reiber passed away this past year and in his honor, we want to do the best we can to fulfill his vision to feed any and everybody who comes to our camp. The Firekeeper's Camp has traditionally been a place where people come to sit and chat, take rest, have a cup of coffee and be fed. This is the way Woody ran the kitchen in the past and this is the way we want to show up. In the past couple years, we've done our best to continue this offering. This year it is our prayer that our fundraising efforts will reach further and wider as we need to purchase a freezer to keep our food cold for the couple weeks we will be there to prepare and feed the many, many people who help support this prayer. We will offer a donation for the electricity we will use. In addition, we need to pay for the storage unit to keep our kitchen supplies, our tents and so forth in South Dakota for the year. The cost for the storage unit is $540 and we hope to pay it in full while we're there. David used to pay it and we want to honor him and keep the unit going in his name and hold his vision close to our hearts. After the purchase of food, the freezer, propane and supplies to run the kitchen, funds will go toward things like gas for ice runs, and other associated costs. Last year, we were able to purchase bubbles for all the children and we went around to all the camps to deliver them. All excess funds will be donated directly to support the Rosebud community.

This Sundance fire is the Heart and origin of the other Sundance ceremonies that occur every summer in North and South America and throughout the world. It is a tremendously powerful prayer that heals individuals, families, communities, peoples, and humanity, and it is a great honor to be supporting this prayer.

We appreciate your support!
