We are a group of residents and business owners in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania who want to make sure that the historic borough retains its unique neighborhood character and strong sense of community that we have come to know and love. We are working to make sure new development is the right development, development that will benefit our town today and many years into the future. We need your help NOW!
There is a proposal before Borough Council to knock down Salem Baptist Church on Summit Avenue and build a 5-story, 74-unit, senior affordable housing development.
Why are we opposed to the development in its current form?
1. The building is too tall and massive for the size of the property and will ruin the historic character of the neighborhood.
2. The amount of parking proposed is not enough and will make our business district parking problem even worse.
3. This will make Summit Avenue less pedestrian-friendly.
Why should you care if you don't live close to the proposed building?
1. This will set a precedent for slap-dash, low cost construction in the Borough.
2. This will hurt our business district.
4. This will increase congestion on Old York Road, in the heart of our business district, due to more cars turning onto Summit Avenue.
To stop this building in its current form, Jenkintown residents are planning to appeal the zoning variances awarded to the developer. The appeal must be filed by 5/20.

We need to raise $6k to support our efforts. This includes $3k for a specialty lawyer, $596 for the zoning hearing transcripts, $294 for the appeal filing fee, and additional funds for materials to raise awareness about the project. If there are remaining funds when the legal process is complete, you can indicate whether you would like a partial refund of your donation or whether we can put the money into a fund to support our ongoing battle to bring the right development to Jenkintown.
