Liebe Freunde, Verwandte und Bekannte,
wie viele von euch wissen, hat Nouras Vater Bashir seine Wurzeln im Sudan, einem Land, das durch den 2023 ausgebrochenen Krieg ins Chaos gestürzt wurde. Die Lebensstrukturen dort sind komplett zerrüttet.
2019 hatte ich die Gelegenheit, die Familie von Nouras Vater im Sudan persönlich kennenzulernen, und ich habe sie tief in mein Herz geschlossen. Jeder Einzelne von ihnen trägt – wie wir alle – sein eigenes Päckchen im Leben. Doch seit über einem Jahr stehen sie vor Herausforderungen, die weit über das hinausgehen, was wir uns vorstellen können.
Seine Schwester Hana ist mit ihrem Mann Amin mittlerweile in den Norden des Sudan geflüchtet und lebt nun im Dorf Kurti. Dort gibt es keine Kämpfe, jedoch ist das Leben aufgrund der aktuellen Situation stark eingeschränkt. Beide haben studiert und arbeiten seit Ausbruch des Krieges nicht mehr. Nun haben sie die kleine Dorfschule im Dorf wieder aktiviert. Die Gelder, die wir sammeln, fließen direkt in diese Schule und unterstützen nicht nur die lernenden Kinder, sondern auch deren Familien.
Der Krieg im Sudan hat das Leben der Menschen dort vollständig auf den Kopf gestellt. Viele sind geflohen, andere halten trotz des Chaos aus. Für mich war es das erste Mal, dass ich nachvollziehen konnte, wie es sich anfühlt, aus der Ferne Angst um Menschen zu haben, die einem am Herzen liegen. Es lähmt. Es macht ohnmächtig, denn man fühlt sich, als könnte man nichts tun – außer zu beten und Geld zu schicken. Es schnürt einem das Herz zu, sie anzurufen. Es fällt schwer, zu fragen, wie es ihnen geht, ohne sich dabei vermessen vorzukommen.
Am Telefon antworten die Geschwister stets, wie alle Sudanesen es tun: „Alhamdulillah, es geht uns gut, und wir halten zusammen.“ Sie sind bescheiden und fragen nie nach Geld, doch ohne Unterstützung kommen sie nicht weiter. Alles kostet fast das Zehnfache. Eine Flucht kostet pro Person an die tausend Euro. Ein legaler Visaantrag ist nur in anderen Städten möglich und kostet noch mehr. Nach der Flucht ist das Ausharren und das emotionale Deplatziertsein keine wirkliche Lösung, aber solange sich die Kämpfe nicht in den Norden ausweiten, kann man dort gut bleiben.
Das gesamte staatliche System ist zusammengebrochen. Die sudanesische Gemeinschaft zeigt unermüdlichen Zusammenhalt und Improvisationskraft, indem sie sich fast vollständig selbst organisiert. Sie haben selbstorganisierte Schulen, Küchen und medizinische Hilfe aufgebaut, um die grundlegende Versorgung sicherzustellen. Ohne staatliche Strukturen sind sie auf die Solidarität und Unterstützung von außen angewiesen, um in dieser schweren Zeit überleben zu können.
Wir bitten euch von Herzen um finanzielle Unterstützung. Jeder braucht Geld – und doch brauchen es manche mehr als andere. Sie sind ihrer Situation nicht selbst verschuldet und können diese ohne Hilfe kaum verändern. Jeder Beitrag zählt und fließt direkt und ohne Umwege an die Familie.

Dear friends, relatives, and acquaintances,
As many of you know, Noura's father, Bashir, has his roots in Sudan, a country that has been plunged into chaos by the war that broke out in 2023. The social and economic structures there have completely collapsed.
In 2019, I had the opportunity to meet Noura’s father’s family in Sudan, and they became very dear to my heart. Each of them carries their own burdens in life – just as we all do. However, for over a year now, they have been facing challenges far beyond anything we can imagine.
His sister Hana and her husband Amin have fled to the north of Sudan and now live in the village of Kurti. There are no fights there, but life is severely restricted due to the ongoing situation. Both of them are university graduates but have not been able to work since the outbreak of the war. Now, they have revived the small village school. The funds we collect go directly to this school, supporting not only the children who are learning there but also their families. After fleeing, simply waiting and enduring the emotional displacement is not a real solution, but as long as the fighting does not spread to the north, they can manage to stay there.
The war in Sudan has turned people's lives completely upside down. Many have fled, while others are holding on despite the chaos. For the first time, I have truly understood what it feels like to fear for the lives of loved ones from afar. It is paralyzing. It makes you feel powerless, as if there is nothing you can do – except pray and send money. It breaks your heart to call them, and it is difficult to ask how they are doing without feeling inappropriate.
On the phone, the siblings always respond as all Sudanese do: “Alhamdulillah, we are fine, and we stand together.” They are humble and never ask for money, but without support, they cannot survive. Everything costs nearly ten times as much as before. Escaping costs around a thousand euros per person. A legal visa application is only possible in other cities and costs even more.
The entire governmental system has collapsed. The Sudanese community demonstrates tireless solidarity and an incredible ability to adapt, as they have almost completely self-organized. They have established their own schools, kitchens, and medical assistance to ensure basic survival. Without state structures, they rely entirely on external solidarity and support to make it through these difficult times.
We are asking from the bottom of our hearts for financial support. Everyone needs money – but some need it more than others. They are not responsible for their situation and cannot change it without help. Every contribution matters and goes directly and without detours to the family.
