Student Veterans Retreat
From soldier to student....many military veterans face unique challenges as they transition to civilian life, and specifically to academic life.
The mission of the Student Veterans Retreat is to ease this transition and help veterans succeed. This 4-day free retreat is based in mindfulness , camaraderie and nature and is located at the beautiful and remote Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center in northern New Mexico. Students who have attended this retreat describe it in terms like "life changing" and "profound."They learn skills in mindfulness and self-regulation, connect with other veterans, and experience the healing power of nature. The result? Calmer people and better students.
Founded in 2013 by a small and dedicated team, the program has been funded by private donations, small University grants and one large government grant, which was sadly time limited and has run out.
Our next goal is to become a permanent program at the University of New Mexico , and we are working hard on that, but in the meantime, we need $8,000 to meet expenses for the October 2018 retreat. It costs $500 for each veteran for transportation, room and board for 4 days. The students pay nothing to attend, and the retreat teaching staff are all volunteer.
We need to raise this money by the end of August, 2018.
Your help will literally change lives.
