Student paramedic volunteering in the Philippines
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Bakr and I am in my final year of studying paramedic science at Canterbury Christ Church University. In June 2024 I will be embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to volunteer in a hospital in the Philippines, as part of my elective placement for my degree.
This remarkable 2 week opportunity will immerse me in a healthcare landscape vastly different from what I've known. I'll be confronted with the distinctive challenges posed by limited resources and unusual medical conditions. This experience promises invaluable insights into the treatment of patients in underserved communities and offers a glimpse into the healthcare system of a developing nation.
In addition to this, I will spend a further week on an island with the Ati tribe, working in a clinic and learning how to manage and treat a variety of illnesses with very limited resources and poor medical infrastructure. I will see how traditional and herbalist medicine plays a role alongside western medicine, and how these two practices intertwine and compliment each other in a low-income country.
I am taking this trip to challenge myself, I love to step outside of my comfort zone and try new and exciting things. One of my biggest passions is travelling; embracing different cultures, seeing new places and meeting new people is what drives me towards an adventure like this.
Thank you for reading and donating!
