My name is Edwina Clapton-Caputo and I am currently studying the Undergraduate Bachelor of Midwifery at Flinders University.
As a third year midwifery student in Australia there is a huge emphasis on public health. During my final year of the course I would love the opportunity to volunteer through Projects Abroad in their Medical Programme Mission. Along with a fellow Midwifery student we plan to spend 3 weeks in June working in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. I will be able to help the women in need, both educate and learn from hospital staff, learn how to work in both a culturally and practically challenging environment and adaptability whilst working with limited resources. I hope this opportunity helps me to become a more clinically competent and culturally safe practitioner. There we will also contribute to reaching,
Projects Abroads key goals in Tanzania:
1. Encourage an understanding of medical practices and promote an exchange of medical knowledge.
2. Improve access to basic healthcare for disadvantaged groups.
3. Improve hygiene standards.
4. Promote awareness of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
5. Reduce the number of cases of malaria / HIV / TB.
To get there I need your help! As with all volunteer projects it comes at a cost and any generous donation is extremely appreciated to get me there.
