Student led Community Black History Month event
Tax deductible
Want to join me in making a difference? Together as a community, we can empower 10-12 East High School students as they plan and implement a major community event celebrating Black history and Black culture. The project has many layers of benefits starting with the students and moving to the wider community.
The students:
- Gain real-world experience in event planning, marketing and design, fundraising, media and promotion, and community engagement
- Empowered to create the change they want to see results in our students feeling loved, welcome, worthy and needed
- Pride and ownership in the implementation of their ideas and plans to teach and share a piece of themselves with the wider community.
The community:
- Embraces our youth and lifts them up in their accomplishments
- Learns about aspects of Black history they might not have before
- Enjoys elements of Black culture they might not normally get to
- Comes together in celebration and community, allowing connection and bridges to be built
The student-led planning committee at Appleton East High School is working with People of Progression, BSU and STAR for guidance and facilitation. As we approach our event date, we realize that to make this event a success, we need more financial support or donations for things like prizes, a DJ, printing services, marketing and promotion, student performance stipends, food, etc.
We appreciate any support sent our way! We look forward to bringing our community something beautiful and learning skills we can carry forward every step of the way.
